Today more than ever, people around the country are seeking a simpler life off the grid, away from the stress and pressures of urban life. But successfully homesteading is no easy feat and unfortunately, many find themselves - and their homes - in danger and on the brink of destruction. Thankfully, one family has made it their mission to help these homestead hopefuls bring their dreams back to life. An all-new season of HOMESTEAD RESCUE premieres Thursday, January 2 at 8pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Audiences can also catch a special of HOMESTEAD RESCUE on December 26 at 8pm ahead of the January premiere. In addition, viewers can catch up on all things homesteading as part of Discovery's new OFF THE GRID THURSDAYS featuring the new series, RECLAIMED, at 9pm, and a new season of BUILDING OFF THE GRID at 10pm beginning on January 9. Traveling to some of the most dangerous and isolated areas of the country, expert craftsman and survivalist Marty Raney, his daughter Misty and son Matt, help families to save their homes and new-found way of life from total demise. Each equipped with a unique set of skills and contribution to quirky family dynamics, the Raneys not only teach homesteading hopefuls the tools they need to survive in the wilderness, but also the many different ways the families can create off-the-grid businesses by utilizing all that their properties have to offer. And this season, they're upping the ante and doing more than just showing homesteaders how to save their dream...they're leaving each homestead with a viable way to make money off their resources. From Missouri to Colorado, Alaska to Hawaii, no homestead is too far gone or dream too far-fetched for the Raneys. Whether it's helping a single mom realize her dreams for an off-the-grid organic farm in Alaska or rescuing a family homestead insulated with old car tires and recycled materials before Ohio's notorious storms blow it down, HOMESTEAD RESCUE spotlights the importance of fighting fire with family. The Raneys know better than most that simple living isn't always easy.
It's time to get back to work! The Raney family is once again traveling across the country to save families and their beloved homesteads from the brink of failure. From a simple solar power fix to allow a family to sleep soundly indoors again, to building location-specific greenhouses and gardens to supply food year-round, the Raneys are gearing up for big builds, life changing rescues and some serious lessons in homesteading 101. This season, expert survivalist and craftsman, Marty Raney, alongside daughter Misty and son Matt, face epic challenges and inhospitable wilderness like they've never faced before. They're traveling to the most remote and dangerous parts of the country to rescue failing homesteads and save these novice homesteaders from total demise. Against all odds, the Raneys must utilize natural resources, endure the elements and work to set these families up for long term success. Whether it's literally draining a swamp in Georgia, growing food out of toxic soil in Texas, or protecting a mountain homestead from falling boulders in Montana, no homestead is too far gone and no task too big for the Raneys to help these desperate homesteaders realize their dream of self-sufficiency.
This season, expert craftsman and survivalist, Marty Raney, alongside his daughter Misty and son Matt, travel to some of the most remote and dangerous areas of the country to rescue failing homesteads and save these families and their new-found way of living from total demise. Against all odds, the Raneys work to shape these homesteads to outlast the homesteader by setting them up with tangible elements for long-term success and survivability that will allow them to endure anything thrown their way. Utilizing local natural resources where possible and teaching homesteaders - and viewers - how to make do with what they've got, this season's builds feature more ingenuity and creativity than ever before. From an unlivable hillside homestead off the coast of Hawaii with a failing foundation, to the Heartbreak Goat-el homestead in Mississippi with a serious flooding problem, no homestead is too far gone or dream too far-fetched for the Raneys. When an off-grid family's small business is shuttered in Girdwood, Alaska, the Raneys create a way to make their fishing dreams come true. By creating a sustainable homestead and protecting it from pesky local wildlife that are ubiquitous in the region, the Raneys attempt to set the family up with the first-ever fully operational, up-to-code commercial kitchen on their homestead to process and sell fish. In Juneau, Alaska, known for having one of the planet's wettest climates, the Raneys work to save a cabin from sinking in the rainforest marsh and into the water that seems to be getting everyone sick. By turning the problem of homesteading in such a wet climate on its head by utilizing the problematic water for the homestead's gain, the Raneys may just be able to give this family a leg to stand on. Whether it's improving the basics like food resources with builds including the first-ever hanging garden, or having a little fun with the home-improvements, like building a boat turkey coop or racetrack for the homestead kids, the Raneys are up for any challenge and ready to bring these families back to the basics to ensure survival for the immediate future and the long-haul.
