About Delhi Crime TV Show

The television show, Delhi Crime, is an Indian crime drama series that follows the police as they go about the business of crime investigation. This hard hitting, award winning TV series was written and directed by Richie Mehta and the first two episodes of season 1 premiered at the January 23 – February 3, 2019 Sundance Film Festival, this was in the Indie Episodic category. After Netflix acquired the streaming rights, Delhi Crime was released on the platform on March 22, 2019.

There have been two seasons of the TV show, Delhi Crime, and it has proved to be highly popular with viewers and critics.

 

Season 1 of the TV show, Delhi Crime, covers the police investigation of the savage 2012 Nirbhaya case, also known as the Delhi gang rape, a shocking and horrific true life story of male brutality against a young woman and her male friend. Vartika Chaturvedi is the Deputy Commissioner of Police and it is her responsibility to lead the search for the perpetrators of the beatings, rape and torture, following which the female victim died of her injuries.

 

Season 2 of the Indian crime drama TV series, Delhi Crime, also follows Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vartika Chaturvedi, and her team, namely Bhupendra Singh, Neeti Singh and Adil Hussain. Season 2 of Delhi Crime is loosely based on the Chaddi Baniyan gang who operated during the 1990’s in Delhi and other parts of northern India, particularly Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Gujarat. The Chaddi Baniyan gang, also known as Kachcha gang, terrorized the citizens of these areas with their criminal acts and guerrilla warfare. Season 2 follows the police investigation of a copycat version of this gang.

The first season of Delhi Crime Premiered on Netflix on March 22, 2019 and it consisted of 7 episodes, the second season was released on August 26, 2022 and this season consisted of 5 episodes. Written and directed by Richie Mehta, the show’s executive producers are Aaron Kaplan, Jeff Sagansky, Florence Sloan, Apoorva Bakshi, Pooja Kohli, Sanjay Bachani, John Penotti and Kilian Kerwin.
