The Resort is an American dark comedy mystery television series that airs on the Peacock channel, it was created for the Peacock channel by Andy Siara, who is also known for Palm Springs, and it is executive produced by Sam Esmail, creator of Mr Robot. Peacock is a streaming service from NBCUniversal.
The comedy mystery television show, The Resort, has been described as a “multi-generational, coming of age love story”, it has also been said to be “disguised as a fast paced mystery about the disappointment of time.” The show flips back and forth between the present day and the year 2007 and gives the viewer the parallel stories of two couples, Noah and Emma and Sam and Violet. To celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary and hopefully inject some new life into their mundane marriage, Noah and Emma are vacationing at a Mexican holiday resort. After Emma finds an old mobile phone they become involved in a mystery that happened fifteen years earlier, involving the disappearance of the owner of the phone, Sam, and his girlfriend, Violet, who were staying at a nearby resort called the Ocean Vista. This resort was destroyed during a hurricane not long after Sam and Violet disappeared. Although the story is set in the Mayan Riviera, the TV show, The Resort, was actually filmed in San Juan and Culebra in Puerto Rico.
The TV show, The Resort, premiered on the Peacock channel on July 28, 2022 and this first season consisted of 8 episodes, each with a run time of around half an hour. The first three episodes were shown back to back and the following episodes were each aired weekly on Thursday after that. As the first season has just aired, it is not yet known if The Resort will be canceled or renewed. Cristin Milioti (Palm Springs, Made for Love and How I Met Your Mother) plays Emma and William Jackson Harper (The Good Place, Midsommar and Dark Waters) is her husband, Noah. The couple who disappeared fifteen years previously are Skyler Gisondo (Booksmart and The Righteous Gemstones) as Sam and Nina Bloomgarden (Fatherhood and Good Girl Jane) who plays Violet. The executive producers of the show, The Resort, are Andy Siara, Allison Miller, Sam Esmail, Chad Hamilton and Ben Sinclair.
The television show, The Resort, has proved to be a popular series, with good ratings and, according to Metacritic, receiving “generally favorable reviews”. The review website, Rotten Tomatoes, said that "The Resort teases more mysteries than it can satisfyingly pay off, but its likable cast and jaunty tone make for a compulsively watchable vacation." The Resort is an unusual show, it is full of flashbacks between the characters in their different time lines and that can often be a little confusing, that said, it is definitely watchable in its own quirky way and it has certainly left its fans wanting more.
