The Hype is an American television series that streams on the HBO Max network, the show is hosted by Chris “Speedy” Morman and it is a design competition focusing on streetwear, HBO Max describes the show as a reality competition.
The television show, The Hype, features up and coming streetwear designers who compete against each other in the hope of winning the title of “The Hype” and the grand prize of $150,000.
The finest streetwear fashion designers of the future undertake weekly timed challenges to create cutting-edge and innovative designs that encompass the fashion, music and cultural influences of the genre, with the aim of getting a “co-sign” from a judge and a guest judge. The contestants produce designs for each episode, one will be a quick challenge, with the winning contestant gaining immunity in the main challenge. The next challenge is the elimination challenge, with the losing contestant leaving the competition, sometimes more than one losing designer will leave the show.
The TV series, The Hype, premiered on the HBO Max network on August 12, 2021, this first season consists of 8 episodes, the first batch of three episodes aired on August 12, 2021, the second batch of three episodes aired on 19 August 2021 and the final batch of two episodes aired on 25 August 2021, each episode has a run time of between 42 and 49 minutes. The show was renewed by HBO Max for a second season which premiered on September 22, 2022. This second season will also consist of 8 episodes, the first batch of three episodes aired on September 22, 2022, the second batch of three episodes aired on September 29, 2022 and the final batch of two episodes aired on October 6, 2022, as with the first season, each episode will also have a run time of between 42 and 49 minutes.
The television show, The Hype, was created by Rachelle Mendez, David Collins and Rob Eric and it was directed by Rachelle Mendez, David Collins, Rob Eric and Michael Williams. The executive producers are Jay Brown, Rachelle Mendez, Michael Williams, Rikki Hughes and Tyran Smith, the production company is Scout Productions.
Chris “Speedy” Morman has hosted both season 1 and season 2 of the show, The Hype. The judges of the show appearing in both seasons are the award winning costume designer - Marni Senofonte, former co-owner of the streetwear megastore, Union - Beth “Bethie” Berkitt and the US rapper - Offset. Season 1 also features guest judges, including Dapper Dan, A$AP Ferg, Cardi B, Alexander John, Bobby Hundreds and Jim Lee.
The HBO Max show, The Hype, has received mixed reviews from TV audiences and critics, however, those who love the show – really love it and are hoping for a third season.
