Part meditative tutorial, part fireside chat, each episode of PAINTING WITH JOHN finds the artist ensconced at his worktable, where he hones his intricate watercolor techniques and shares his reflections on what he's learned about life. Combining images of Lurie's paintings, original music, and irreverent point of view on tapping into your childlike artist side, his overall ambivalence toward fame, and more, the series reminds us to prioritize a little time every day for creativity, fun and a bit of mischief.

John Lurie, a guitarist, painter and actor created the unscripted television series Painting with John. On January 22nd, 2021, HBO and its streaming affiliate HBO Max released the first six episodes of this series and in August it was renovated for another season. The show is an homage to Lurie's earlier show, Fishing with John, from 1991. In the first season, the musician shares his philosophical views and improves his aquarelle technique. Now that Season 2 is coming out, everybody is excited to learn what the show will bring to the table. Let’s take a look!

Who is Going to be in Painting with John Season Two?

John Lurie self-played the character with six episodes, Nasrin Wolf self-played the character in four episodes, and Ann Mary Glud James played in four episodes. In this series, the main executive producers, Adam Mckay and Todd Schulman, are the characters who played a major role in this series and there are no questions about their importance. The cast and the characters bring a lot of entertainment, curiosity and joy to their audience.

When Will Painting with John Season Two Come Out?

This show has been renewed for another season and it is going to be available on HBO and its affiliate platform HBO Max. The official release date of Painting with John Season Two is going to be 18th February, 2022.

The Plot of Painting with John Season 2

As part of Painting With John's second season, there are interludes filmed on Lurie's small estate. Mockus and Lurie marvel at their local flora & fauna, which includes huge insects, as well as vividly colored fruits. Occasionally, Lurie plays around with his assistants Ann Mary Gludd James and Nesrin Wolf, his two "co-stars." Season two introduces a recurring sketch called Cowboy Beckett, in which Lurie and the employees dress in western attire and perform some absurdist theater.

We find it surprising that Cowboy Beckett is called a "sketch". There is nothing polished or finished about Painting With John save their paintings, which are displayed at each episode’s ending like a gallery exhibit. Lurie talks about the reaction to his previous episodes in Painting with John's second season and expresses a degree of ambivalence regarding thousands of complete strangers who believe they actually are aware of him regarding his own life from those few episodes. The direction that Lurie uses this year doesn't really change, however, except for some moments in which he tries to be honest about his idyllic beachfront paradise's problems, which include flooding and an excessively vibrating washing machine.

I actually find Painting With John to be extremely calming, the show’s pitch doesn’t usually rise above a murmur, and there is zero pressure to find out why Mockus and Lurie include the things they do. You can relax as you take in all the beautiful visuals and strange sounds, letting them carry you wherever you go.
