The TV show, Animal Kingdom, premiered on the TNT cable channel on June 14, 2016, the first season consisted of 10 episodes, each with a running time of between 45 – 55 minutes. The TV show, Animal Kingdom, ran for 5 more seasons, seasons 2 – 6 each consisted of 13 episodes that ran for 45 – 55 minutes. The final episode will be aired on August 28, 2022, with the finale becoming its 75th episode.
TNT’s cable TV show, Animal Kingdom, was developed by Jonathan Lisco and is an Americanized adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2010 Australian indie crime thriller movie of the same name that was directed by David Michôd, who is an Executive Producer of the series. Liz Watts, Eliza Clark, Andrew Stearn, John Wells, Etan Frankel and Christopher Chulack are also Executive Producers of Animal Kingdom. Jonathan Lisco and John Wells are also the same team that produced ER, Shamless, Southland and The West Wing.
What is the show, Animal Kingdom, About?
The TV series of Animal Kingdom is set in Oceanside, Southern California, and it follows the toxic lives of the Cody family. Three generations of this criminal family live their lives full of indulgence and excess, fuelled by drug use, robbery and violence, all set in beautiful, surfing beach scenery.
The show revolves around Joshua Cody, otherwise known as “J”, who moves to Oceanside at the age of 17 after his mother dies of a heroin overdose. He soon discovers that his estranged grandmother, Janine Cody, known as “Smurf”, is the matriarch of the Cody family’s criminal empire and he is soon drawn into their life of crime.

The TV show, Animal Kingdom, has been the “must watch” show for its many, many fans and they were dismayed to hear that it was to be canceled. TNT has not explained the reason behind the cancelation, but ratings were dropping and that is usually a factor. It could also be that TNT appears to be shifting towards more unscripted programs. Many fans are hoping for spin-offs from the series but as the series is only just coming to its explosive end, it will be a while before we hear anything about that.
