The American Sci-fi TV series is coming to an end. If you've been an avid watcher and want to know why it's not being renewed, keep reading. The Expanse takes inspiration from a series of novels written by James S. A. Corey. The books were a great success and well received by readers and critics alike. It has been nominated for awards and even won a few, like the Hugo Award, Locus Awards, Dragon Award and many more. Syfy Channel announced in April 2014 a straight-to-series commitment for a TV adaptation of The Expanse soon after the 1st season was released in 2016. It's hundreds of years in the future, and the solar system has been colonized by people. There are three large ruling confederations in the vast expanse of space. Earth and Mars are in constant unrest because of the distrust built between themselves. All the colonies have to collaborate to survive an alien substance that threatens to destroy the universe. The lead, James Holden (Steven Strait), with his band of outcasts are fighting this protomolecule to save the solar system. The series was cancelled after running for 3 seasons in Syfy but was taken on by Amazon Prime. Fans can watch all seasons in preparation for the last and final season 6, which is set to be released this December. The show has been beloved by its fans and has surprised critiques with its character play, the script integrates politics, technology, solid characters and multiple worlds all in one. It has somehow managed to become one of the most fascinating sci-fi adaptations in the 21st century, so it comes as a surprise that it's about to be cut short. The teaser trailer was released in October at the New York Comic Con 2021 and gave fans a glimpse of what to expect. The series will run till January 14th, 2022 and make an "epic series finale." Why is The Expanse ending? Amazon's renewal announcement has made it clear that the show will continue for only one more season. This may come as bitter-sweet to the long-standing fans of the show who have faithfully followed the characters in their space exploration and fights with alien protomolecule. The co-head of television at Amazon Studios, Vernon Sanders, has stated that Season 6 would give "the satisfying conclusion to the series that they deserve." This was said with the intention to give the fans something to look forward to before it ends, however, Naren Shankar, the showrunner, has mentioned to Entertainment Weekly, "What I will say is that there's definitely more to tell and I'm sure Ty and Daniel [Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham, who jointly write the novel series under the pen name James S. A. Corey] would say exactly the same thing. But yeah, that's probably about as much as I can say at this point." This could give a bit of reassurance and even hope for a future with The Expense as a TV show.
