Elisabeth, whose nickname was Sisi, and Franz became engaged within days and were married eight months later, when Elisabeth was sixteen years old, poor Helene was said to have fallen into a depression after being rejected. Following their marriage, Sisi became the Empress consort of Austria and Queen of Hungary, she was known to be a free spirit and she found the Viennese court too formal and restrictive, however, the marriage endured and produced four children, three daughters and a son. The TV show depicts the relationship between Sisi and the other members of the royal family, her mother in law, the Archduchess Sophia (who was also her aunt), was displeased with her son&rsquo;s choice of a wife and was antagonistic towards Sisi.
